BHP Tackle, Inc. :: Casting Wind-On Connection

The correct orientation of the wind-on leader prior to casting is to position the loop-to-loop connection between the reel and first guide, above your finger.

You should be casting with bare spectra on your finger, not the wind-on sleeve or leader material. A single loop-to-loop connection is preferred.

With casting wind-ons, you may experience deterioration of the serve when casting with the body of the wind-on wrapped around the spool. Casting distance will also be affected.

Depending on rod length you may have to cut the leader down to correctly position your lure for maximum casting distance.
